FINANCIAL FORECAST CHALLENGES DISTRICT
Please submit your ideas for cost cutting savings here

November 23, 2009

At the November 18, 2009, Regular Board of Education Meeting, the Board of Education took their first hard look at the Five Year Financial Forecast since the failure of a proposed new levy at the recent election. While the administrative team continues to look for ways to make reductions in spending, the goal is to maintain the best education possible for Vermilion’s students. This will be even more difficult with the loss of at least a year’s worth of income the levy would have provided.

As the financial future was summarized by Amy Hendricks, Treasurer/CFO, it was clear that even with passing a levy in the future, many of the budget cuts will be permanent. The district is in the same situation as the people in our community trying to make ends meet in a tough economy. In order for Vermilion to begin to recover and attract new businesses and home buyers, having a strong school district is key.
