Interview on Teaching and Learning
1. Why did you choose teaching as a profession?
I have always wanted to be a teacher. I loved learning and going to school when I was younger. I’ve also had many teachers throughout my life who have inspired me to become a teacher.
2. Why or how did you choose to come to Vermilion?
I grew up in Vermilion and graduated from Vermilion High School. After college I moved to Hawaii to gain teaching experience and taught there for two years. I heard of a job opening in Vermilion and was very excited to move back home and have the opportunity to teach and live near my family again. I was looking to work in a smaller district and Vermilion was the perfect fit!
What do you like most about the Vermilion Local School District?
I love the sense of community here in the Vermilion School District. I enjoy working with my colleagues and the opportunities we have to co-teach and work in inclusion settings. I also love the technology we are able to offer our students.
4. Give some examples of things you believe are important in teaching.
I believe it is important to get to know the students. When the students know you care about them and feel safe in the classroom, I think they are more willing to participate and take risks. I also believe it is important to hold all students to high expectations and give them the motivation and encouragement to meet their goals.
5. What do you think is the most important thing you offer Vermilion students?
I try to always be positive with the students. I make the students aware of their learning goals and work with them to achieve their goals. I celebrate their successes with them and help them problem solve when they are having a difficult time.
6. Describe some important influences in your life.
My grandparents are important influences in my life. I am very close with all four of my grandparents, and I am blessed to have them in my life. They have taught me the values of hard work, persistence, and enjoying life.
7. Do you have any interests outside of your job?
I enjoy spending time with my husband and our families. I spend my free time reading, exercising, cooking, and shopping!
