High School Concert Band Auditions
by Nathaniel Oshaben
October 21, 2009
Similar to last year, each student in the band program will be auditioning on his/her instrument for placement into the high school's two Concert Bands. An audition is required by everyone and each student will get a grade towards the 2nd quarter for completing the audition. All audition materials and information were made available in the Band Room last week and are still available if need be. The last week of Marching Band, Oct. 26-30, there will NOT be any after school or evening Marching Band practices. However, Concert Band auditions will take place AFTER SCHOOL that week and students should arrange their schedules to be available at the high school on the day of their audition. Though each person's audition may only take a few minutes, the entire process will take 2-4 hours each day with as many students as few have, therefore students should plan on being around at the high school for roughly 30-45 minutes. If students are only able to stop by for a short time, we can slightly alter the order to allow them to quickly audition. See the schedule below for days:
Mon – 10/26 - Flute, Horns,
Tuba
Tues – 10/27 - Trumpets, Trombones, Baritone
Wed – 10 28 - Clarinets, Saxes, Bass Clarinet, Bassoon
Thurs – 10/29 - Percussion
This audition will be conducted blind, meaning that we score each person's audition without knowing who is performing. Furthermore, we won't know the names of anyone auditioning until after everyone has played and we've placed them in order. As always, we encourage and expect our students to work to their highest potential as it will directly reflect how they perform and in this case, ultimately where they end up. We wish everyone the best of luck and would like you to feel free to ask questions.
