Do you know how to find the surface area of a cone? Can you calculate the volume of a sphere? In math, the students in Mrs. Nabors’ 8th grade Pre Algebra class used everyday objects to determine their area, volume and surface area. We measured and calculated the surface areas of basketballs, art boxes, and paper towels. We also used shapes that we can unfold called nets. We could easily break them down, and find the area of each individual side, which helped us find the surface area. Along with the group work we used the SMARTBoard to test our skills. As a class we are very diligent, and have been focusing, and learning as a whole, instead of individually. We have laughed, and actually have incorporated fun with the skills of math itself.
