The 5th grade all-star basketball team defeated the VIS teachers in an epic battle Monday, February 1, 2010. The 2nd annual game was held this year at the high school due to the size of the attending crowd. This year's event had record setting 900+ in attendance.
This event kicks off the Jump Rope for Heart program at Vermilion Intermediate and helps raise money for The American Heart Association. The fan support was fantastic! Thank you to everyone who attended and made this a night to remember for everyone involved.
PTO sponsored and ran the concessions. There were donated items from the Browns, Indians and local businesses such as, Varsity Town, Barnacle Bills and local financial advisor Shane Naill from Lakeside Financial. Other financial sponsors include: Anchor Baptist Church, Beulah Beach Camp, Mill Manor, Amvets Post 22, CenturyLink, Subway, Rt. 60 U-STOR-ALL, VFW, Lorain National Bank, H&R Block, Dick's Sporting Goods, Varsity Town, Curves, Coca Cola and The American Legion Baseball Association.
Fans were treated to an NBA style game complete with introductions, banners and student and staff cheerleaders. Superintendent Phil Pempin and Board of Education member Tim Rini also participated and played on behalf of the staff team.
After all was said and done, a total of just over $2,800 was raised from the night's activities. All of the night's proceeds go directly to The American Heart Association. Students at VIS will jump rope next week in hopes of collecting donations to help fight heart disease and stroke. Thank you to all those involved in this year's event and congratulations to the 5th grade all-star team.
