Thursday Dec. 17th Band Concert and other upcoming Band events

Dear Students and Parents,
We would like to take the time to inform
you of some upcoming events with which our program and members of
it are involved.
First, the VHS Concert Band program will be
holding its annual Holiday Concert this coming Thursday, December
17th, starting at 7:30pm. The concert will feature the VHS
Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble, and Sailor Jazz Band. Admission for
this special event will be in the form of donations or a plate of
cookies. Students need to be in the band room with their music and
instruments by 6:55pm. An additional reminder to all students and
parents: concerts are formal events and we ask that students dress
appropriately. Jeans, low cut tops, tee-shirts, or short skirts are
not appropriate for this type of an event. Please remember that
this is a formal setting and not only should your clothing be
school appropriate, but you should feel proud of what you’re
wearing on such an occasion. Also, at the concert we will be
pre-selling tickets for an event the Band Boosters are hosting at
Quaker Steak & Lube on Sunday, January 17th, the day before
Martin Luther King Day.
Second, as mentioned, the Band Boosters are
hosting an evening of “all-you-can-eat” wings at Quaker Steak &
Lube on Sunday, January 17th. The event will be from 6:00pm-9:00pm.
The evening will also have live entertainment and we will be
raffling off many different prizes, including Cavs tickets, a
get-away to Kalahari, and many additional prizes that are being
added. All proceeds from the event will go towards the purchasing
of new Marching Band Uniforms. Please ask a Booster or Director for
more information and help spread the word!!!
Third, we were very fortunate to have some
individuals be selected to play at our District 2 Honor’s Band
(January 16th) as well as the Bowling Green State University
Honor’s Band (January 21st-23rd). Congratulations students! We’re
very proud of your hard work.
Fourth, the evening of January 26th, we are
holding a “Recital Night.” This evening will be for all VHS Band
and Choir students who would like to perform a solo or a small
ensemble piece. This even is for students who are unable to
participate in OMEA Solo and Ensemble (February 13th) as well as
for students who’d like to have the chance to perform sometime
before Solo and Ensemble. This event will be at 7:30pm in the VHS
Band room.
Lastly, OMEA Solo and Ensemble will take
place on February 13th at Fremont Ross High School. This is an
opportunity for our VHS students to challenge themselves and grow
musically, performing solo or with an ensemble.
