School Grounds Clean Ups in Third Year at VHS

by Rebecca Jessen

May 13, 2009

Vermilion High School is proud of its well-cared for buildings and grounds.  During the 2006-2007 school year, Darrin Schultz, currently a senior at Vermilion High School, designed a system of school grounds trash clean ups.  With help from teacher Rebecca Jessen, Darrin advertised the trash clean ups and recruited students to help.  Twice a semester, groups of students from different classes and social groups spend an hour after school picking up trash on the high school grounds.  The clean ups are typically scheduled right before events such as homecoming, National Honor Society Induction, prom, and graduation.  Students can earn community service hours for participating and extra credit is even offered in some classes!  The next school grounds clean up is scheduled for Wednesday, June 3rd, at 2:45 PM.  Anyone interested in helping out should meet at the main entrance to the high school.  Questions about this program can be directed to Rebecca Jessen at Vermilion High School.
