Mike Poff - Class of 1969

Mike Poff is a 1969 graduate of Vermilion High School. At VHS, he was a four year letterman in Football and three year letterman in Track. Mike was in National Honors Society and President of Student Council his senior year. In track he ran the 100 yard dash and threw shot put and discus. In football he started all four years at linebacker and three years on offense as center and fullback. His junior year he was most valuable defensive player. Mike also received the Anchor Award and during his senior year he was first team All Lakeland Conference center and linebacker as well as first team All-State.
Mike attended Miami University in Oxford, Ohio on a Football scholarship. While at Miami, Mike started three years as an offensive center. He was All Mid American Conference center for three years and Honorable Mention All American his senior year. Mike graduated from Miami in 1973 with a B.S. in Education. After college he taught high school and coached four years in Hastings, Michigan. In 1978 he became the Offensive Line Coach at Central Michigan University. While at Central Michigan, Mike finished his Masters Degree and the football team had a record of 70-28-1. They won two Mid American Conference Championships during his time at CMU. Mike has authored two books as well as a number of articles in National Magazines. Mike currently has a real estate business and lives in Northern Michigan with his wife Kathy. He has two children; a daughter Sarah who lives in Shepherd, Michigan and a son Zachary of Boise, Idaho.
